Update on Bill Goldberg’s WWE return match

Inside: Identities of Roman Reigns' security guards on WWE SmackDown

TOP STORIES TODAY

on WWE SmackDown, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, and Seth Rollins met in the ring again to sign a contract for their match at WrestleMania 41. During the show, the Tribal Chief was escorted by his own personal security guards. However, these weren't some nameless extras playing the role of security guards.

According to reports from Fightful Select, the former WWE Champion's security detail for the contract signing included some prominent names from the UK wrestling scene. The group known as The Romanettes included Damien Corvin, Ethan Allen, Shreddy, Elijah, Tate Mayfairs, Kid Lykos, Joe Kessler, Daz Black, Kez Evans, Myles Kayman, Will Kroos, James Ellis, and Rampage Brown. These wrestlers have competed in some of the biggest promotions in the UK, such as RevPro, Progress, and ICW.

Many fans never thought they'd ever hear The American Nightmare's "Kingdom" theme song play in World Wrestling Entertainment again, but the two sides shocked the industry shortly after Rhodes left AEW in early 2022. Cody's run in Tony Khan's promotion saw several shots at Triple H, the McMahon Family, and WWE, and the animosity seemed clear as Cody's theme blared out in arenas, starting off with a signature phrase: “Wrestling has more than one royal family.” The theme will be discussed on Wednesday's episode of Stephanie's Places on ESPN+.

McMahon took to Instagram today to share a clip of Wednesday's episode with the Undisputed WWE Champion. She agreed that the McMahon Family is not the only royals of pro wrestling and thanked Cody for welcoming her into “enemy territory” for the interview.

CM Punk, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins signed the contract to make their WrestleMania Triple Threat match official this past Friday night on SmackDown. During the segment, Heyman informed Punk that his dream of main eventing The Show of Shows would come true next month. The Wiseman also embraced his former client before The Second City Saint revealed that it was not the favor the Hall of Famer owed him.

The legend took to his Instagram story today to send a heartwarming message to the former AEW World Champion. Paul Heyman noted that after all this time, Punk's WrestleMania dream has finally come true.

FROM THE RUMOR MILL

The Ring General could be booked for another major program this summer. After Goldberg took to social media this weekend to announce that he has officially resumed in-ring training for his comeback, backstage sources have indicated that WWE's creative team and company officials remain intent on giving Da Man a proper send-off from in-ring action.WWE actually covered Bill Goldberg's November podcast comments, but creative changes during WrestleMania 41 season have altered unrelated storyline plans.

However, Goldberg's storyline was apparently not impacted, as PWInsider notes that he is still planned for a retirement bout. This is believed to be just one match and not any kind of tour. Backstage sources note that PLE changes have not altered the potential timeline for Bill Goldberg's final storyline.
